The Chanler at Cliff Walk

A palatial mansion completed in 1873 as the summer residence of New York Congressman John Winthrop Chanler, The Chanler at Cliff Walk blends the opulence of Newport's storied Gilded Age with the exquisite luxuries and amenities of today.

Driving through The Chanler's main gates, you get the impression that you're arriving at someone’s grand private residence rather than a place of business. Although it's just a short distance from downtown Newport and overlooks The Cliff Walk, one of the city's most admired attractions, The Chanler and its two-and-a-half-acre estate is designed to be a restful, romantic sanctuary away from — yet close to — the action.

Enjoy The Chanler's stunning ocean views, take a stroll around its beautifully tended gardens, dine at Cara, enjoy one of the seasonal outlets such as the wine garden, and even pamper yourself with a luxurious aromatherapy bath. There are 20 guest rooms at The Chanler, each custom designed and elegantly decorated. In addition to the lovely rooms located inside the mansion, the hotel offers Garden Villas and Ocean Villas that are accessed by their own private outdoor entrances and include private hot tubs. Ocean Villas include private steam saunas and sweeping views.

All guest rooms at The Chanler include fireplaces, wet bars, chandeliers, heated bathroom floors, and most feature oversized Jacuzzi tubs.

Tucked away in a small private room with panoramic ocean views, Cara,  The Chanler's signature Forbes Five-Star restaurant offers contemporary and creative blind tasting menus inspired by European elegance and sustainable New England ingredients. Executive Chef Jacob Jasinski lets the food take center stage with avant-garde cuisine, creating new dishes daily to highlight ingredients harvested at their peak. To provide a storied view into the creative process each dish is thoughtfully presented and explained by the kitchen team creating a dynamic interaction between the chefs, service team, and guests. An optional wine pairing from the extensive beverage list, recognized by Wine Spectator's Award of Excellence, is curated nightly for each dish.

Serving as the property’s more casual dining space, The Café offers breakfast (in-house guests only), lunch, and dinner daily. Take in the Cliff Walk views of Easton's Bay while relaxing on the fully enclosed and heated terrace (winter) or take a seat in the lounge and enjoy a mixologist-crafted cocktail or select from our award-winning wine list.
